Stump Grinding Sunshine Coast

A stump left in the ground after a removal slowly turns into a problem nobody planned for, surface roots that heave pavers, sucker regrowth from the trunk collar, a magnet for white ants and root-rot pathogens, and an awkward lump every time the mower goes past. Grinding it out in one visit clears the lot.

Our machines come in two sizes. The narrow-access grinder fits through a standard 760mm pool gate or hinterland side path, which is what we need for most Sunshine Coast backyards, Buderim, Sippy Downs, Twin Waters canal blocks all run that same constraint. For open paddock work on a Nambour acreage or a hinterland block off the Blackall Range, we bring the bigger grinder and chew through a hardwood fig stump in a fraction of the time.

Quoting is based on stump diameter at ground level, species and how deep you need it. A coastal melaleuca grinds fast, salt and softness work in your favour. A native fig with a buttressed root flare or a dense hinterland hardwood takes longer. Standard finish is 150–300mm below grade, deep enough to roll turf or lay pavers straight over the top.

Camphor laurel stumps are common on older Nambour and Palmwoods properties. They grind fast, the wood is soft and the root plate is usually shallow and wide rather than deep. Norfolk pine stumps along the beachfront strip at Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headland are the opposite. A solid taproot goes down hard into sandy ground. Those jobs take longer and sit at the top end of our stump pricing. On the sandy soils common around Maroochydore, Kawana and the canal estates, the grind void tends to slump fast. Weeks, not months. We usually recommend the topsoil backfill line rather than leaving raw chip to settle on its own. A typical backyard stump between 300mm and 500mm diameter runs $180 to $320 once access and species are factored in.
