Land Clearing Sunshine Coast
Block clearing for new builds, acreage regrowth control, fire-prep on hinterland properties — selective work, native canopy retained where the planning scheme requires.
Block clearing on the Sunshine Coast is rarely a clean slate. Most lots inside the council planning scheme carry vegetation overlays, koala-habitat triggers or significant-tree listings that reshape what can come down and what has to stay. Before any chainsaw runs, we want the surveyed envelope, the overlays on the property report, and a clear line on which canopy trees you want retained.
Inside the approved footprint, the sequence is straightforward — knock the weed species and regrowth back first, drop the marked vegetation in sections, mulch the green waste on the spot, then grind the residual stumps below the slab line. On a hinterland block off the Blackall Range or a sloped Maleny acreage we run the work uphill-to-downhill so the chipped material isn't fighting the gradient on the way out.
Retained trees get flagged with hi-vis tape and a no-go radius taped off before the machines move. Surface roots of native figs and koala-feed eucalypts inside the canopy drip line are protected — drive over them with a tracked excavator once and you've killed the tree the planning scheme just told you to keep.
Across Sunshine Coast we see this work most often near Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and out across the surrounding suburbs — subtropical rainforest with bunya pine, strangler fig and red cedar in Maleny. Species we handle regularly include Hoop Pine (araucaria cunninghamii) and Bunya Pine (araucaria bidwillii), each with its own pruning windows, failure modes, and council protections. Every quote we write factors in the species on site and the access route, not just the visible canopy.
What's included
- Site walk against the surveyed envelope and overlay map
- Permit-aware scope — flagged retain trees stay, marked clear comes down
- Knock-back of weed species, woody regrowth and ladder fuel
- On-site chipping of all green waste straight into mulch piles
- Stump grinding through the slab line where the build sits over
- Root-protection radius on retained native canopy trees
- Coordination with the builder, surveyor or town planner as required
When you might need this
- → A new build envelope needs the in-footprint vegetation gone
- → Acreage regrowth has closed in around the house and outbuildings
- → Fire-prep on a hinterland block before the dry season pushes in
- → Selective thinning around a Maleny rainforest fringe
- → A bushland edge needs ladder fuel and lantana removed
- → A koala-overlay block needs work scoped against the planning scheme

Land Clearing FAQs
Can you clear native trees if they sit inside the build footprint?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no — it depends on the species, size, planning scheme overlay and whether a tree-clearing approval has already been issued for the lot. Native trees four metres or taller with a trunk circumference over 40cm are usually protected, and koala-habitat or vegetation-management overlays add another layer. We don't touch protected vegetation without paperwork.
Do you do fire-prep work on hinterland blocks?
Yes. We knock low scrub, lantana and ladder fuel back from the house, pull deadwood out of the canopy of retained trees, and crown-lift the lower limbs that connect ground fuel to canopy. Late dry season is the right window — early enough to get it done before the fire season tightens up.
Where does all the cleared vegetation go?
Chipped on the spot by default. The mulch can sit in piles for the owner-builder to spread later, get pushed into a perimeter strip, or get loaded and hauled away as an extra line. Solid hardwood rounds suitable for firewood can be cut and stacked along a fence on request.
