The first call is usually figuring out whether you actually need a formal report or whether a quote with site notes will satisfy whoever is asking. I'll read the letter, the council request, the insurer's email (whatever you have in writing) and tell you straight whether it's a quote-with-notes job or whether a consulting arborist needs to write a stamped report.

When a formal report is the right call, I coordinate with a qualified consulting arborist and keep that work separate from the tree work itself. The report is advice; if removal, pruning or stump grinding turns out to be the next step, that is quoted and invoiced independently so there is no perceived conflict of interest in the writing of the report.

They usually come from a homeowner in the hinterland behind Nambour, or a block backing onto bushland near Buderim. The council wants a written assessment of the species, size and condition before it will consider an application. A phone description won't cut it, someone needs to walk the block. Insurance-related reports after storm season pick up too. An adjuster might want confirmation a tree was already dead or diseased before an ex-cyclone brought it down. Turnaround on a straightforward site report usually runs three to five business days once the consulting arborist has been out. It can take longer if council or the insurer comes back with follow-up questions. Costs vary by scope. A simple written note might run a few hundred dollars.
