Arborist Reports Sunshine Coast
Plain-English tree advice for council overlays, insurance claims and boundary disputes, with a qualified consulting arborist looped in when written advice is needed.
Some Sunshine Coast jobs need paperwork before the saw runs. Council might want written advice on a tree inside a vegetation or koala-habitat overlay before they sign the application. An insurer might want an independent note on whether the limb that came through the patio was already dead before the ex-cyclone hit. A neighbour might be threatening to sue over a fig dropping fruit on their side of the fence. Each one wants a different sort of document.
The first call is usually figuring out whether you actually need a formal report or whether a quote with site notes will satisfy whoever is asking. I'll read the letter, the council request, the insurer's email — whatever you have in writing — and tell you straight whether it's a quote-with-notes job or whether a consulting arborist needs to write a stamped report.
When a formal report is the right call, I coordinate with a qualified consulting arborist and keep that work separate from the tree work itself. The report is advice; if removal, pruning or stump grinding turns out to be the next step, that is quoted and invoiced independently so there is no perceived conflict of interest in the writing of the report.
Across Sunshine Coast we see this work most often near Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and out across the surrounding suburbs — subtropical rainforest with bunya pine, strangler fig and red cedar in Maleny. Species we handle regularly include Hoop Pine (araucaria cunninghamii) and Bunya Pine (araucaria bidwillii), each with its own pruning windows, failure modes, and council protections. Every quote we write factors in the species on site and the access route, not just the visible canopy.

Arborist Reports FAQs
Do I actually need a formal arborist report?
Often no. Many tree jobs only need a quote and a sensible site note. Formal reports come into play when council, an insurer, a builder, a solicitor or a tribunal asks for written tree advice in a specific form. Send me what they have asked for and I will tell you straight whether you need a stamped consulting report or whether the quote will do.
Council has come back wanting more information. What now?
Send through their letter or email — whatever wording they have used — and a quick description of the tree. I'll read the request, work out what they actually want, and either provide the site notes myself or loop in a consulting arborist if the application specifically calls for a stamped report.
Is the report separate from the tree work itself?
Yes — always. A report is independent advice and should be treated that way. If removal, pruning or grinding is the recommended next step, that work is quoted and invoiced as its own job so the report writer isn't pricing the work they are recommending.
